One ant, one flower

The flower was doing the hard work here. It sat in a pocket of shade so deep that everything around it fell away to black, and the white of the petals did the rest. The ant only had to show up.
Ants come to flowers for the same reason bees and sunbirds do. There is sugar in there, sometimes in the bloom itself and sometimes in small glands on the stem that the plant keeps for exactly this purpose. This one walked the full length of a petal, paused at the dark centre, and carried on as if it had somewhere to be.
At 300mm and this close, the depth of field is a few millimetres. The ant is sharp and the petal behind it is not. That is the trade, and it is the right one.
