In the passionfruit vine

Passionfruit vines are chaos. Tendrils in every direction, leaves at every angle, and somewhere in the middle of it a bird the length of my thumb. The Olive-backed Sunbird is the commonest sunbird in Bangkok and it still takes a minute to find one in a plant like this.

It moves in a way that is hard to predict: a hop, a lean, a dip of the curved bill into a flower, then gone to the next one. I found that it came back to the same few blooms, so I focused on those and waited.

The bird is small in the frame on purpose. The vine is the story, and the bird is what the vine is for.
