In the water spinach

The field was a solid green mat of water spinach, the kind you see in every wet corner of Thailand, and something was moving through it. A White-breasted Waterhen: slate grey above, clean white face and front, and a long-legged, careful walk that never quite breaks cover.
Waterhens are everywhere there is standing water and somewhere to hide, and they are loud, with a call like a creaking gate that goes on for minutes. But they are hard to photograph because they never come fully out.
So this is the honest picture. Green leaves, and a bird you have to look for.
